The Sextet for strings was written at the beginning of the eighties and is dedicated to the composer’s friend, the viola player Abili Fort. The work was written at the request of the violist Enrique Santiago, who commissioned Fleta to write works for the sextet that he had created in Germany.
From the very first bar, the work has an inner rhythm that is often very clear, with work based on dance movements, lending it a fresh, direct feel that is very characteristic of the personal language of Fleta. The spirit of each movement is in line with the title of each of the work’s three parts, clearly showing the author’s command of the language of string instruments. Solos by each instrument are combined with tutti sections, which effortlessly take on a tension that is controlled and balanced at all times.
