Deux pièces Parisiennes is a homage to the inner world and the intellectual curiosity of Livia Gallignani, a graduate in history of theatre, music and dance from the University of Ferrara and the composer’s partner.
A shared taste for the aesthetics and art of the early twentieth century, especially in the Parisian and Catalan contexts, is represented in this work by a musical style very close to the works of that period, particularly the composers of the Les Six group, though with a more narrative structural treatment and including extended techniques, characteristic of later decades, as expressive or descriptive elements.
The first piece, Entr’acte, describes the inner world of the dedicatee through contrasting passages which represent each of the particular facets of her personality.
The second piece, Ciclotímica, describes the couple’s life together, in which sweetness, mystery and intensity alternate, as in the work itself.
