The Poetic Waltzes were originally written for the piano, and published in 1887, when Granados was 20 years old. This series of Waltzes –like Schumann’s piano cycless- how us music of a clearly romantic inspiration, alternating between melancholic and passionate, and humorous and tender moments, framed between two brilliant and virtuous pieces: the introduction and the conclusion that takes us again to the first waltz, in the manner of an emotional recapitulation of the work.
Granados created an academy in Barcelona where various generations of pianists have been formed, thanks to whom we can enjoy, in our times, the way that the composer interpreted his music, and how he was introducing changes in those works as he was playing them.
Our transcription is based on the existing editions –that show some differences- and it has taken into account some of the changes made by Granados. In regards to the dynamics and articulations, we have respected the piano editions’.
