I wrote this work in homage to the man who was my composition teacher, Josep Soler (1935). I used the theme of depression for two reasons: firstly, it refers to the way the master regularly plays with pessimism and sense of humour, and secondly, to the illness itself, which I suffered from between spring and winter 2003.
With respect to the score, essentially it should be borne in mind that it is a descriptive work and that each movement in itself tells us something we will not find in the others, a feature that at the same time serves to give a sense of unity, particularly in this work. With regard to metronome beats, I think it is logical and normal that small differences should arise between each interpreter and each interpretation, but it should be remembered that they ought not be too great, as a work when based on a description is a slave to its tempos.
