Pere Soto is a multi-faceted musician with active forays into the world of jazz. His travels around the world and performances in several jazz ensembles have afforded him perspective in his view of his homeland, Catalonia. We could say that this work is the composer’s musical expression of the input he receives about Catalonia, seen from outside.
It was written in three times, in Badalona in 1997, between trips. The first is the desire to move towards freedom (The beginning of freedom), the second was written in the form of a chorale under pressure (Under pressure), and the third describes the wish for freedom (Freedom), with some passages that form a dialogue between each of the instruments, culminating in a brilliant ending.
This work features great dynamic wealth that expertly uses the resources of each instrument.
