From 1985 onwards, I wrote several works for various instrument combinations, which I named nocturns. Their common feature is their slow passages, although these are always alternated with more lively ones.
The first nocturn, for solo violin, is divided into two contrasting parts, the first of which is a slow part for double strings. It is also a small reminder of my time as a violin student, when I had to find solutions to the problems presented by books on this technique. The faster part contains more lively rhythmic material, based on changing brief recurring themes and the use of large intervals.
