4 Rimes breus were composed by after reading the first edition of the collection of poems L’oreig entre les canyes by Josep Carner, on the event of the musician’s investidure as Doctor Honoris Causa at the Autonomous University of Barcelona on 22nd May 1985. They were dedicated to professor Francesc Bonastre who had advocated this appointment and were first performed at the act of investidure by the soprano Carmen Bustamante and the pianist Albert Atenelle.
The four songs interpret the lyrics of poet, evoking different moods and a wide range of rhymes but which are always concise and epilogic.
We would like to thank the musicologist Francesc Bonastre and professor Jaume Coll for collaborating with this edition.
