This work, which is presented in the form of a suite for piano, reflects the sixteen poems that make up the first part, entitled Escenes del tapís: memòries de Teseu (Scenes from the Tapestry: Memories of Theseus) in which the reading of each poem alternates with the fragment of music that recreates it. Each poem increases by one syllable and therefore the musical composition impressionist by nature does the same in terms of its duration, increasing by one quarter of a minute each time.
The second part, Destrucció del tapís (Destruction of the Tapestry), in which the syllables of each poem decrease, is interpreted in reverse order to the pieces that ran from the ninth to the third piece in the first part. This complements the ascendant and descendant curves that configure the structure of the book.
This is the first time in my life that I have tackled such an unusual musical approach, which has proved a big challenge. I approached it as an attempt to approximate the poetic work of David Jou, a rather audacious act on my part which was motivated by the appeal of the poems contents.
This work was performed in Girona (Catalonia) in 4th January 2009 by the rhapsode Dolors Vilaplana and the pinist Victoria Katsyuba.
